We are asking supporters to call the Department of Justice, and to ask Eric Holder to use his influence to free Bradley Manning, put an end to the brutal practice of solitary confinement, and to protect whistle-blowers.

The Bradley Manning Support Network has called for an international day of action in solidarity with Bradley Manning’s next scheduled day in court, April 24th. Thus far twelve events have been organized internationally by Bradley’s supporters. In particular, an Occupy DOJ rally is being held in Washington DC, in front of the Department of Justice building.

Protestors will be there to demand an end to the all-to-common use of prolonged solitary confinement as a psychological weapon. Bradley Manning spent eleven months in solitary confinement, in conditions which the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture has called “cruel, inhuman and degrading”. The chief torture investigator’s requests to visit with Bradley Manning have been repeatedly blocked by the Obama administration.

Further, last month Attorney General Eric Holder called for a “profound national commitment to ensuring an open government.” PFC Bradley Manning has been abused and tortured for allegedly telling the truth. His actions, if he did what he is accused of doing, revealed to the world significant war crimes, coverups, and unnecessary secrecy. Whistle-blowers, as Obama’s campaign pledge states, are vital to a vibrant democracy. No one was harmed by the documents published by WikiLeaks, and hence we must ask Eric Holder how he can claim to support an open government while persecuting so brutally those who reveal the truth.

Call Eric Holder.

Bradley Manning spent almost a year in solitary confinement, and it has almost been two years that he is in prison. The trial has yet to begin. This is not justice.

  1. “As in so many past experiences, our hopes had been blasted, and the shadow of deep disappointment settled upon us. We had no alternative except to prepare for direct action, whereby we would present our very bodies as a means of laying our case before the conscience of the local and the national community.” – MLK

  4. The US Government, and most notably employees from any department under the auspices of the Department of Homeland Security (Customs, Immigration, TSA, etc), are far too free to label/libel US citizens as “traitors”. I know this from experience after immigrating to Canada when George W. Bush was appointed President.

I have been called a “traitor” by one US Immigration Officer (US Preclearance in Calgary) and called “unpatriotic” by another (US Customs in Houston) for being a US citizen residing outside of the USA.

The “Patriot Act” is now used as an EXCUSE to violate the Rights of both citizens and non-citizens alike.

Bradley Manning is nothing more than a whistleblower. God Bless him for standing up against government corruption. But be assured that the US government, US Military establishment and the US Federal Court system will distort laws to justify their actions and protect their own.

  5. I think time will prove that Manning will be to the USA,what Mandela was and still is to South Africa and the world.
not unlikely to go from ‘criminal’ to hero and respected by all.
MANDELA .One day a terrorist facing the death penalty,to president of South Africa.
MANNING .One day a traitor detained without trail,to a internationally hero, standing up for what he believes in.
