Hello, my name is {name}. I’m calling to urge Major General Michael Linnington to drop the “aiding the enemy” charge leveled at accused whistleblower Private First Class Bradley Manning.

The idea that Manning would have “aided the enemy” because the leaked documents were published on the internet is patently absurd and sets a very dangerous precedent for journalism and for the free speech in general.

I am very disappointed in the government’s appalling mistreatment of Bradley Manning and continued attempts to paint him as a traitor. Please drop the ‘aiding the enemy’ charge against Bradley Manning immediately, and allow his defense team access to the critical evidence and testimony that they have so far been denied. Please to stop preventing consideration of evidence which shows that these WikiLeaks revelations were never a threat to our national security.

You took the oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; the Constitution unambiguously places free speech and due process at the very top of the list of protected rights. Please uphold your oath by making sure Bradley Manning receives a fair trial.

“I find your charge of aiding the enemy again Manning hyperbolic and indeed suggests to me that the military is acting like a bunch of school boys coming up with everything and the kitchen sink to through at Manning. Seems to me you folks are angry about a lot of things and Manning has become your whipping boy. Is that because he is gay? Is that the military’s issue – that same sex relations must remain in the closet lest all of the military be “tainted” by this brush? Your over the top punishment of Manning suggests to me there is more at play here than the revelation of so-called military secrets.”
