December 6, 2012. By the Bradley Manning Support Network. Military whistle-blower Bradley Manning will turn 25 on December 17th. It will be his third birthday in prison, and by the time his court martial begins it will have been almost three years: one year of which in the Quantico marine brig, where he was held in solitary confinement against the recommendations of mental health professionals. His trial is scheduled to start next March, but he still needs our support. Please take a few minutes to send Bradley a birthday message.

After a two-day break, PFC Bradley Manning’s Article 13 motion continued, with Marines corrections expert Abel Galaviz testifying about the various ways in which the Quantico Marine brig violated Navy regulations in the way it maintained Bradley’s confinement. Tomorrow, brig commander James Averhart will take the stand.

December 4, 2012. By Nathan Fuller. MSGT Craig Blenis, a Gunnery Sergeant at Quantico until it closed, was Bradley Manning’s counselor at the brig. Pressured from his superiors and fearing media scrutiny. Blenis kept Bradley in restrictive conditions for nine long months, against psychiatrists’ recommendations. Bradley’s hearing continues at Ft. Meade December 5-7, and then December 10-12.

In the fifth day of this week’s pretrial motions hearing for PFC Bradley Manning, the government’s witnesses today tried to justify keeping Bradley in effectively solitary confinement. In cross-examination, defense lawyer David Coombs revealed their reasoning to be circular, inaccurate, and otherwise problematic. GYSGT Blenis will testify during tomorrow’s hearing, which starts at 9:30 AM.

Meade, PFC Bradley Manning explained today the various ways in which he attempted to remove himself from restrictive Prevention of Injury watch, a day after brig psychiatrists testified that they recommended his conditions be relaxed as he posed no risk to himself. This week’s hearing will continue December 5-7 and the previously scheduled December 10-14 hearing has been canceled.
