20 March 2011 – Wrexham, Wales. Vigil for Bradley Manning

Members of Wrexham Peace & Justice Forum and others held a vigil and solidarity letter-writing session for BradleyManning, also remembering the people of Japan, Iraq and Libya during our 20 minute silent vigil. The nuclear disaster in Japan, the Iraq war, the fate of Libya and the plight of Bradley Manning are all inextricably linked in the web of deceit and folly that characterises modern warfare.

We had a very positive interaction with local ex-soldiers after the vigil. Like so many, they were obviously struggling to cope with life after the army, but they stopped and listened, were indignant and concerned for Bradley Manning, wrote heartfelt letters to him there and then and took information away with them to share. We didn’t have to do much explaining to them about Bradley’s situation – they knew the score straight away.
