Update 8/26/11: WikiLeaks releases more cables, Bradley Manning compared to Indian whistle-blower
WikiLeaks has publicly released a large trove of the documents Bradley Manning is accused of leaking. No doubt it will take weeks for the independent press to sort through all of the documents, but NPR’s blog summarizes some of what they consider the significant findings here.

In a thought provoking critique, Priti Gulati Cox compares the case of Indian human rights activist and whistleblower Dr Binayek Sen to that of Bradley Manning. By highlighting similarities of the legal injustices faced by both Sen and Manning, she points out the hypocrisy of both American and Indian democracy. The act of whistleblowing provides critical resistance to “forces of the state, the corporations, the military, and the global elite” who create global violence and inequality. For a successful movement, Cox reminds us that public support is needed: “we the dissenting voices—whether as lighting rods like Dr Sen and Pfc Manning or as part of the broader movement—must feed off each other and mobilize as a collective voice for equality and justice”.
