Advocates for PFC Bradley Manning will demonstrate for the Nobel Peace Prize nominee in and around Portland on Thursday, August 16. Demanding the immediate release of PFC Manning, they will once again be shutting down 5 military recruiting locations from 10am-4pm throughout Portland, Beaverton, and Gresham. They are also demanding an end to the drone wars. To date, U.S. drones have killed 4,371 people in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia alone. This DOES NOT include Iraq & Afghanistan. Then we’ll meet up at the Lloyd Center recruiting location at 4:30pm, for a short march to watch and support a related “surprise” nearby. For Portland reporters, contact Glenn Silbersdorff, opdxglenn@gmail.com, 5039330011. This action is part of a coordinated set of West Coast demonstrations to support the alleged WikiLeaks whistleblower in Oakland, CA, Los Angeles, CA, and Portland, OR.

The Army recruitment locations are as follows:

Gresham at 830 NW Eastman Parkway
Beaverton at 2660 SW Cedar Hills Blvd
Eastport Plaza at 4200 SE 82nd Ave Ste 1100
Lloyd Center at 1317 NE Broadway
Battalion Headquarters at 6130 NE 78th Ct

Accused WikiLeaks whistle-blower PFC Bradley Manning’s lawyer, David Coombs, just published on his blog his Article 13 motion to dismiss, which documents the extensive and punitive abuse Bradley was subjected to while detained at the Quantico Marine Brig. Military emails reveal that a three-star general ordered Bradley’s illegal and brutal treatment, which included solitary confinement and which UN torture chief Juan Mendez concluded was “cruel and inhuman.” This motion will be argued at Ft. Meade at the October 1-5 hearing; however, Bradley will return to court before that, for a motion hearing August 27-31.
