“Lets build a massive global call to the US government to stop torturing Manning”

As of April 12th, the Avaaz petition has reached nearly 500,000 signatures–nearly double that of their initial goal. Add your name to the Avaaz petition here.

Avvaz.org, the online action site whose subscribers number over 7 million, has joined us in calling for President Obama to end Bradley’s inhumane treatment at Quantico.    Their online petition, started April 7th,  has racked up about a half million signatures in less than a week.  According to their website, this petition “will be delivered through hard-hitting ads and actions in Washington DC.”

Avaaz recently started a petition for the release of Iman al-Obeidi and a full investigation of her abuse at the hands of the Libyan government.  Within several days, the petition had over 500,000 signatures.  Their previous work this year has been focused on the democracy uprisings in the Middle East — and given the intimate connection between those uprisings and the release of the State Department Cables — Bradley’s case a natural fit.    In their petition to President Obama, Secretary Clinton, and Secretary Gates, they write,

“We call on you to immediately end the torture, isolation and public humiliation of Bradley Manning. This treatment is a violation of his constitutionally guaranteed human rights, and a chilling deterrent to other potential whistleblowers committed to public integrity.”

This could be a big step.  Please join us and (possibly) a million others, by signing the petition, and passing it to your friends.

  1. Bradley Manning is a American hero. The wrong man has been imprisoned..Bush and company should be in jail instead.
