Update 9/27/12: Motion to dismiss all charges due to lack of speedy trial

After receiving permission to do so today, Bradley’s attorney David Coombs published his 117-page defense motion to dismiss all charges. The motion was filed on September 19, 2012. The Bradley Manning Support Network will be publishing highlights and analysis soon; however, to can read it here now.

The conclusion of the defense motion reads in part:

A military accused’s right to speedy trial is fundamental. The Government’s process of this case makes an absolute mockery of that fundamental right… All have lost as a result of the Government’s shameful and unjustifiable delay in this case. PFC Manning has lost. The United States Government has lost. The entire system of military justice has lost. There is only one adequate remedy for such a total loss: dismissal of all charges with prejudice. For these reasons, the Defense requests its Court to dismiss all charges and specifications with prejudice because the Government has trampled upon PFC Manning’s speedy trial rights.
